Gray Box Project's Audition

DEADLINE
18 April 2021.

WHAT
We are looking for a Budapest-based professional contemporary dancer who wants to participate in a 2 weeks-long residency in Bratislava (SK), happening between the 7-20 June 2021.

WHO
Based on trans-disciplinary research and collective experimentation, Gray Box creates, curates and produces, in all horizontality, a body of work with a strong political, ecological and social dimension. We consider the moving body together with its immaterial aspects - such as perception, empathy, emotions, intuitions - as a political tool to forge emancipated micro-communities, create meaningful social connections and human interactions. In the past years Gray Box has performed across Europe (France, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Hungary...), in major cities and small towns alike. It has been in-residence with many resident theaters and at universities (France, Malta, Austria, Serbia, Armenia, Hungary...).

WITH
The residency in Bratislava (SK) will be led by Anna Adam (maker).
Other participants are: Rebeka Petra Kiss (dancer) and Julia Gaal (dancer).

PROJECT
In the frame of our "UTOPIA/DYSTOPIA" performance project, the selected dancer will have the opportunity to participate in a series of group workshops, one-on-one working sessions and rehearsals, so as to elaborate a personal gender sensitive response to both feminist and ecological concerns. Through the exploration of the parallels between women's history and wisdom, systems thinking and cyclical time, the selected dancer will investigate the empirical, spiritual, material and political frameworks which reveal a hierarchical reality that conflates women and nature, and devalues both. Following discussions (based on readings, life experience, self-examination) related to the topic and practical application (movement research, choreography...), the selected candidate will finalize an already existing choreographic material, co-develop a solo, make thematic movement research and participate to rehearsals. So as to stimulate different parts of the brain and the body, the dancer will move back and forth between performance tasks, creative writing and drawing exercises as well.
At the end of the residency, if the situation allows, the prepared work will be presented to the public.
